USING CRITICAL DIGITAL LITERACY SKILLS TO EVALUATE AI AND PRIVACY CONCERNS
This week I have been putting my critical digital literacy skills to use by searching for information about AI and its privacy concerns.
WHAT ARE THE PRIVACY CONCERNS
ASSOCIATED WITH AI?
I have been looking into AI and privacy concerns, which is basically how AI systems handle our personal data. Use of AI has increased drastically around the world. As useful as AI is, it can be equally dangerous regarding our privacy. AI privacy concerns include data collection, data breaches and surveillance. This all leads to misuse of personal data of an individual and monitoring individuals without their permission.
WHY IS IT AN ISSUE?
This is a huge issue because AI can collect and analyze our personal data without us knowing. This can lead to misuse of our data, loss of privacy and identity theft. It affects our personal information like our daily social media habits, preferences and even our private conversations. When our data is not protected or is leaked, it can be used against us in harmful ways.
Everyone using online digital services, and people who share personal data are affected by AI and privacy concerns.
AI and privacy concerns happen when people don't secure their personal data and aren't careful while sharing it. For instance, users share their information without thinking about the privacy settings, which leads to their data being collected and misused by AI.
