Using Critical Digital Literacy Skills to Evaluate Online Information Related to internet safety issue of students using AI in generating explicit porn content
Hello friends,
Throughout this week, I have been putting my critical digital literacy skills to use by searching for information about an internet safety issue regarding students using AI in generating explicit porn content.
I have been looking at students using AI in generating explicit porn content which is students using an app or website to make AI-generated pornographic images of the other students. Before we started you all must be wondering what's deep fake?
Let's get to the definition of it first before we dive in our topic.
What is Deepfake?
Deep fake is an image or video that has been altered to misrepresent someone to which doing they did not do or say. For example: a person use picture of a celebrity to replace a person face expression like the picture above or a person use it to make a video which the celebrity never done or said. You must be wondering what does deepfake have anything to do with my topic. In that case students using AI in generating explicit porn content also known as deepfake pornography, that is why it's better if we understand the context of deepfake before we started.
?Why is it an issue
According to a recent report published by The Guardian on 12 June 2024 stated that about 50 high school students at Bacchus Marsh grammar alone has reported on this issue.Students using AI in generating explicit porn content is an issue because this counts as sexual abuse and harassment. Whether AI has been used or not without consent this kind of content shouldn’t be shared, and it can also result as cyber bully and blackmail as well. Who is affected by this issue?
On 13 June 2024,Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that a week before the article was released, a boy was expelled from a catholic school in Melbourne’s south-east after he created a fake sexual image of his teacher which went around the school. In addition, on the same week the article was released about 50 students has their images turn into deepfake pornographic content as well. ?How does it occur?
As stated by Sexual Assault Services Victoria chief executive Kathleen Maltzahn said due to the accessibility of online AI programs, boys and men could create and distribute deepfake pornographic content. Not to mention student using AI to create explicit porn content also cause by the temptation ads or offered prompts online such as ‘undressing someone’ etc. Student AI deepfake images reflective of porn crisis

I chose the CRAAP method to evaluate this article because I think CRAAP is the most suitable method to evaluate whether the article is reliable or not and help me to identify what is applicable to my research. The article I evaluate in the video is useful. It helps me understand the problems and who is the one who is affected by it.
