USING CRITICAL DIGITAL LITERACY SKILLS TO EVALUATE THE IMPACTS OF USING AI ON EDUCATION

This week I’ve been putting my critical digital literacy skills to use by searching for information about an internet safety issue: The Impacts Of Using AI on Education.

I’ve been looking at the effects on students using AI which is basically how they use it for their education.

What is AI?

Is there any problem for student who uses AI?

There are some effects on students when they use technology such as AI to help them with their schoolwork including Homework and Assignments, and this is an issue because it not only delivers an advantage to them but it also brings some disadvantages to the students such as making them become lazier, less engaged, and put less effort into their study. Using AI is like taking a shortcut without gaining any knowledge if not using appropriately. 

According to The Saint Anselm Crier (2023) states that students use AI to provide them with a quick solution to their schoolwork, so they don’t have to struggle to find the solution. This can lead to unimprovement of critical thinking and problem solving skills.

AI can generate a lot of ideas for people, it helps them to get their work done quickly and achieve good results. At present, AI is powerful, it is a very high intelligence program and millions of students around the world including both high school and university students are using AI to assist their learning in school. They use it to find the solutions to the questions that are given by the teacher. But even though it helps assist their education, they might only end up getting bad effects from using AI if not being used appropriately such as copying AI works and ideas. This means students put less effort and less engagement in learning, they are more likely to depend on AI, and it will not improve their study skills because using AI inappropriately is just like hiring someone to do the work for them.

Why do students use AI? What's the purpose? 

AI was created involves mimicking human intelligence into a machine which makes it very smart and advanced like a high-intelligence human, it can help solve a lot of problems by giving advice and the solution to the problem. That's why a lot of new-generation people such as students who like using technology will use AI program to help them in school. Mostly students who are not doing well in class.
